Three Types of Body Types

 

 

 

There are three primary body types that are simply terms for different shapes. One type is not necessarily "better" than another is, although some people might prefer one type to another. The three types are ectomorph, mesomorph, and endomorph. What are the characteristics of each? Read on!

 

What does a Ectomorphs look like?

 

Ectomorphs are typically long and lean. They tend to have narrower hips, shoulders, and lower body fat. Their metabolism is high, which means that they burn calories quickly, but this body type also tends to have a lower amount of lean muscle mass. It can be difficult for ectomorphs to gain muscle mass for a fit, shapely look. Lower repetitions with higher weights can help ectomorphs build muscle, along with shorter amounts of aerobic exercise. Aerobic exercise for this type is good for maintaining cardiovascular health, but it will not help them build mass.

 

 

What does a mesomorph look like?

 

Mesomorphs fall in between ectomorphs and endomorphs. They tend to have more muscle and can add muscle easily. They have broader shoulders, a narrow waist, and larger muscles. When mesomorphs are in shape, they tend to have a faster metabolism due to the amount of lean muscle mass. When people visualize a physically fit person, a mesomorph-like image is most likely what they think of.

 

What does an Endomorph look like?

 

Endomorphs have larger bones, rounder faces, and larger trunks. They tend to carry weight around their midsections, and losing weight can be difficult for them. This does not mean it's impossible! Many an endomorph has successfully lost weight! You need to find the best exercise for an endomorph body type!  Aerobics is extremely important for shedding the fat off but also weight training for endomporphs are in important too.

 

About the three types of body types

 

It's important to remember that people are not entirely one type or another. An out-of-shape mesomorph can look very much like an endomorph, while a person who tends toward an endomorph shape can look very much like a mesomorph with the right program.

 

These body types are more useful as a guide when it comes to developing an effective weight-loss program. A mesomorph might lose weight quickly doing mostly strength-training exercise and very little aerobic exercise, for example, while an endomorph would do well on a program using both strength training (typically higher repetitions with lower weights) and an aerobic exercise program. Ectomorphs would try to build muscle mass using lower reps and higher weights.

 

The important thing to remember when considering your body type is that there is no "one size fits all" exercise and nutrition program. Everyone has an individualized metabolism, for example, and may react differently to various nutritional programs. If there were a perfect diet for everyone, we wouldn't be seeing new books hitting the shelves every month!

 

Use the body types as a guide to develop your own program tailored to your needs.
