Emotional Eating

Have you ever gotten in a situation, let say you broke up with your girlfriend and/or boyfriend and went home to pig out and went to bed?

We all have those days when we just want to eat what ever we want to when we feel terrible.

Emotional eating is the practice of eating large amounts of foods, usually foods that we like (aka comfort foods or junk foods) instead of eating when we really need it.

Emotional eating can make weight loss extremely difficult.  Let say that you have been exercising for the whole week and you were on the negative side your weekly calorie requirement to stay at your current weight.

Great news, because if you continue to stay at that negative side, you will end up losing weight.  But then that “dark” day comes and you go home to pig out.  You have pizza, fried chicken wings, chocolate and a bottle of soda.

You end up with eating four to five thousand calories at one sitting.  That day alone you will probably have consumed all the calories you didn’t consume throughout the week or you may have even eaten more calories than you require for the week!

Below are the top three reasons why you might eat for comfort:

Boredom

Ever felt bored out of your mind?  You have that feeling that there is nothing to do, no where to go, and not too much exciting going on.  There is plenty of room to be “entertained” by food!  Thus you’ll just end up eating all day!

Lack of Control

When you feel that your life is out of control, what do you think you can control?  That’s the food that you put in your mouth.  So again, you end up stuffing burgers and pizzas down your mouth.

Hopelessness

This one is very similar to the lack of control example.  You think that there is nothing matters to you anymore, so you think what can be worst?  Then you say to yourself why should you care about your health, weight, and waist line anymore?  Does it really matter?  You do know that eating makes you feel better instantaneously.

There are plenty of more reasons why you may emotional eat.  If you want to lose that unwanted weight off then you must have to take control of your life.  First you must know why you eat.  Once you have that, you have to constantly remind yourself that you should not eat for comfort but eat for fuel instead. Don't let emotional eating ruin your life.
